T-Chat Companion brings installation, updates, service status, models and smartphone access together in one macOS app.

A control centre, not a technical dashboard

Companion clearly shows whether T-Chat, its database, AI engines and media services are available. Starting, stopping, restarting and opening the browser interface take one click.

The practical difference is immediate: people can see whether the system is ready and know where to act when something needs attention.

Installation and updates without Terminal

On a new Mac, the guided flow checks requirements, prepares the necessary components and completes the first start. On an existing installation, update packages are checked before they can change the system.

Configuration, licence and data remain separate from code. A backup makes recovery possible if the update does not complete correctly.

T-Chat Nearby: the smartphone joins the private network

When the phone and Mac share the same Wi-Fi network, Companion generates a temporary QR code. The new device is approved and T-Chat opens in the phone browser.

There is no need to publish T-Chat on the Internet. Connections remain visible, can be revoked and disappear when Nearby is disabled or Companion closes.

Local models become easier to understand

The Model Observatory separates installed models from models that are genuinely loaded. It reports file size, parameters, quantisation, context and resident memory, together with observed work phases.

Technical telemetry stores no prompts, answers or identities. Its purpose is to understand how a model uses the Mac, not what a person is saying.

From Ollama to SSD Streaming

Companion helps manage Ollama models and local engines compatible with MLX or llama.cpp. For supported MoE models, it also configures DwarfStar and SSD Streaming.

Every state remains explicit: installed, configured, reachable or running. No green indicator is based on an assumption.

Local infrastructure becomes truly useful when the people doing the work can understand and govern it.
